29th December 2020
The Requiem Mass for Fr Paddy Walsh takes place tomorrow at 10am in the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Meddan’s Troon. The live-streaming of the Mass can be accessed through the parish YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/channel/UCTPUZFAy6hTgeUKLxW5oARg
Bishop Bill Nolan will concelebrate the Funeral Mass with Canon Archie Brown, PP of Our Lady’s and St Meddan’s, and Mgr Tom Millar. Like myself, clergy and lay faithful from the Diocese would have liked to attend but with the present restrictions this is not advisable. Mgr Millar, who has known Fr Walsh since his youth, will represent us all along with Bishop Bill, in whose Diocese Fr Paddy has spent the final period of his long priestly ministry.
As well as praying for Fr Paddy’s eternal rest we offer our prayerful support and consolation to Mary, his house-keeper for over 50 years. We thank her for her care and companionship in his time as Parish Priest in Stepps and Coatdyke, and through his retirement in Troon. We offer our sympathy also to his family in Ireland and elsewhere, who unfortunately cannot travel to attend his funeral. A word of thanks and appreciation also to his neighbours and friends in Troon, who have shown himself and Mary such kindness through their time there. Also the assistance of the local carers was much appreciated by Mary is his later days at home and in his final week of life in the nursing home.
May God grant Fr Paddy eternal rest as we give thanks for his life and his faithful ministry as a priest – “Save us Lord while we are awake, protect us while we sleep, that we may keep watch with Christ and rest with him in peace.”
