INNOCENTS SUNDAY on 6th October 2019 is a Diocesan Initiative.
The Innocents seek to support those women who find their pregnancy a problem, to offer encouragement, counselling and material support where it is needed. They seek to speak and work with the young people in our area to help them think about their own lives and attitudes. They offer a Conference each year to 3rd/4th Year pupils in our High Schools, and recently they have been working closely with the Family Life agency of our Diocese.
They are looking for new members to join the Innocents to work with them in their guidance and counselling service, to help in their work in Schools and Parishes and to help also with administration and provision of practical support.
From this special Sunday they are looking for the growth again of Pro-Life cells and Prayer Groups in as many Parishes as possible to enable them to reach out to as many people as need them.

EASTER MESSAGE
“As Holy Week approaches each year I always experience a strong sense of anticipation, a looking forward again to the liturgical celebration of these great events so central to our faith—the Last Supper, the Passion and Death of Our Lord, and his Glorious Resurrection.
Sometimes we can feel nostalgic about what happened in the past, especially when we were young, but it is very necessary for us to be aware of the important experiences which have formed us. When we have been brought up to know and love our faith, and to have experienced it in the worship and life of our local Catholic parishes, we realise this is a precious gift which we must hold on to for the whole of our lives.
Because our faith in the Risen Lord bring us such interior joy and hope, despite our own crosses and difficulties, it is something we wish to pass on to the children of today, and surely there is no better gift we can give them.
As was the case for me as a child, this gift is lived and shared in our own homes, and is blessed and
strengthened by sharing fully in the life of the Church—in the prayers, the celebration of Holy Mass and the Sacraments, and in the spiritual and social
activities of our parishes. Pope Francis in his recent exhortation “Christus vivit” (Christ is living) encourages all in the church to work fully with our young people and strive to enthuse them with the knowledge that Jesus is alive in their lives and that is indeed the most precious relationship we have. As the Church across the world celebrates with joy the Lord’s resurrection, I pray for his blessing upon you, especially on all your families and homes. May his love and peace penetrate deep into our hearts and souls, and through us spread to others.”

ALL WELCOME.
FEAST OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES, Monday 11th Feburary is World Day of the Sick. “You received without payment; give without payment” (Mt 10:8). These are the words spoken by Jesus when sending forth his apostles to spread the Gospel, so that his Kingdom might grow through acts of gratuitous love. On the XXVII World Day of the Sick, to be solemnly celebrated in
Calcutta, India, the Church – as a Mother to all her children, especially the infirm – reminds us that generous gestures like that of the Good Samaritan are the most credible means of evangelization. Caring for the sick requires professionalism, tenderness, straightforward and simple gestures freely given, like a caress that makes others feel loved. “ Pope Francis

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR PEACE is on 1st January 2019
The theme chosen by Pope Francis this year is “Good Politics is at the Service of Peace“. In his message, the Holy Father recalls: “Political office and political responsibility thus constantly challenge those called to the service of their country to make every effort to protect those who live there and to create the conditions for a worthy and just future. If exercised with basic respect for the life, freedom and dignity of persons, political life can indeed become an outstanding form of charity.”
A collection for Justice and Peace will be taken up at all Masses next Sunday, the Feast of the Epiphany.
NEW COLLEGE LANARKSHIRE INFO EVENING will take place at their Coatbridge Campus on Tuesday 8th January from 4-7pm. Bishop Toal’s Christmas Message
Wherever we are in the world the mystery of Bethlehem is recalled and comes alive each Christmas as we look into our own cribs and celebrate our faith in the Birth of Our Lord and Saviour in the Church’s Liturgy. Thank God we are free to do so and we pray for those who are not as they suffer persecution for their faith, like the Innocents of Bethlehem killed by Herod after Jesus was born.
The people of Bethlehem today continue to bear their trials as the Palestinians seek to protect their presence and their rights while the State of Israel imposes its control over them. To a visitor the restrictions they live under seem excessive and demoralising and make one wish that a just and lasting settlement may be found to allow Palestinians and Israelis to live harmoniously together. The Child Jesus was hailed as the “Prince of Peace” prophesied by Isaiah and at Christmas we pray that peace may reign in his own land and in the troubled countries close by.
In our country also we pray for an attitude of peace and tranquility and for an acceptance of one another whatever our nationality or creed.
I ask God’s blessing for you and your families as we honour and adore Jesus, the Word made Flesh and Son of God.

Christ is our life and now this is all that matters.

Easter Message
As we relive the Lord’s rising from the dead at the Vigil, the celebration of the Sacraments renews our awareness of our participation in the salvation the Lord has gained for us and the gift of his grace poured into our lives. Those of us not being baptised renew our baptismal promises and are blessed with holy water, so that our faith in the Lord’s goodness is refreshed and strengthened. We all need to be saved; we cannot do this for ourselves however virtuous we may be; in Baptism and the other
Sacraments we receive the saving grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, our protection from evil in this world and our promise of eternal life in and with God. The joy of Easter, the grace of the Sacraments, the inspiration we all receive from those coming to share our faith, make the Easter Vigil our most important liturgy of the year and I encourage you to be there.
In anticipation I wish you all a very Happy Easter and pray for the
Lord’s blessing upon us all as we give thanks for all the
wonderful gifts that we receive from him.
+ Joseph toal
